China ranks first in its agricultural production in the world, and the main crops include rice, wheat and beans. Although only accounting for 10% of farmland worldwide, China has been able to provide food for 20% of the world’s population. Rice planting in China began as early as 7,700 years ago, and industrious and creative Chinese farmers had adopted a variety of methods to increase crop yields before the use of machinery and chemical fertilizers.
